Added value to business operations through the circular economy business model

We put together a guide for companies looking for circular economy partnerships to see if Syklo offers the solutions your business is looking for from its partners and whether the circular economy business model is the right solution.

2. What kind of companies complement each other as partners?

4. Where should a company begin if considering the possibilities of a circular economy business model?
5. Why should every company be at least partially involved in the circular economy?

1. What kinds of partnerships does Syklo offer?

We are happy to discuss a broad range of various partnerships, as well as shareholdings or acquisitions. We are interested not only in companies already involved in the circular economy, but also in different companies that offer solutions for closing the circularity of construction materials or are able to make renewable products out of low-value biological streams. Common to all our partnerships is that in our work, we share the values that are important to us: humanity, entrepreneurship, courage, and dexterity.

A partner must have a genuine desire to solve challenges, to affect the circularity of materials, to build more efficient recycling systems, and to think outside the box.

2. What kind of companies complement each other as partners?

The sizes of the companies can range from big public companies to small teams, from start-ups to more established high-growth companies. The company usually has a technological innovation, for example, that they need a good partnership in order to develop or launch.

In practice, a partnership could mean cooperation between the companies, with different aspects shared amongst the partner companies. Or a solution to a company’s problem could be sought through a dialog where Syklo supports the partner, possibly as a consortium with several other partners.

3. What can Syklo offer its business partners?

For large industrial companies, for example, we can be the reliable and innovative partner currently missing from your operating model, with whom to jointly invest in a solution that develops circular economy products.

Meanwhile, for small high-growth companies and start-ups, we are a very potential partner, for example, in building your first commercial expansions because we can share our knowledge of technological innovations and even act as an industrial experimentation platform. Or we can offer ourselves as a strong backbone because we are able to withstand a certain number of prudent risks. We also have the expertise to help with developing operations and even with internationalisation.

With the right partner, we can find valuable ways to reuse waste materials from production, for example, in your own production. Often, we also further examine your business model, for the sake of both companies. In the best-case scenario, our partner is also able to produce a raw material the company needs, creating a kind of semi-enclosed circularity.

4. Where should a company begin if considering the possibilities of a circular economy business model?

Start the process by critically assessing whether the production method currently in use is sensible and whether there are better, more effective, or more sustainable ways to produce the desired product or service.

In this situation, companies should absolutely make use of partners because many sectors have more or less the same solutions. If the sectors have no exchange of information with a company centred on the circular economy, such as Syklo, it may be difficult to find the best circular economy models for your own business.

Networking is the common denominator of business models based on the circular economy. Nobody can really achieve anything tangible on their own. Each participant in the circular economy needs a reliable network of partners on the same wavelength.

5. Why should every company be at least partially involved in the circular economy?

Production and consumption related to the use of materials play a major role when it comes to global environmental challenges. In Finland, the circular economy of materials is only 7%. There is a lot to be done.

Whether it is a question of side streams from production, packaging waste, or any other form of waste created from your operations, almost all of it can be used as part of the circular economy. Each company could manage the whole chain itself, but often significantly better results can be achieved with the right, responsible, partner.

By prioritising your company’s own skills and resources, more time can be allocated to running the main business operations. Meanwhile, you will gain new knowledge to help with your developing business from circular economy professionals.

With the right partner, you can think more about the whole and get continuous feedback and develop your business. For example, it is worth considering whether your business is able to utilise some of the waste materials generated in production and reuse them in your own production.

In such a situation, your company should think carefully about its role and the role that the circular economy and the desired partnership could play. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch if you are considering such a situation!
